About Emotion Dysregulation

Dealing with unpleasant emotions is part of being human. Every day we encounter emotions and experiences such as frustration, grief, stress and conflict. Emotion regulation helps us keep our reactions to those strong emotions “in check” and allow us to respond in ways that are healthy and balanced.

However, not everyone feels confident in their ability to manage those strong feelings. Some people describe being on an “emotional rollercoaster” or feeling “controlled by emotions”. Others remember being told they were “too sensitive” and take things “too personally”. Things in your life may seem “out of control”, and you may have difficulty in relationships. Often people find they don’t have the necessary skills to make coping with strong emotions feel more possible. If you’re ready to gain the tools you need to build emotional resilience and find balance, I can support you on that journey!

I make use of a range of skill-based modalities, mainly Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) all of which focus on managing difficult emotions and building strategies for balance and stability. I have formal training in DBT and am well-versed in skills training. I provide DBT Informed therapy-which incorporates skills training in a less regimented and structured setting than full-model DBT. During a typical session you can expect to both learn and experience new skills thru real time experiential and guided practice
